In 1968, Llandaff Laminates Ltd was jointly founded by Colin Phillips and his father, who was a successful local businessman. As laminate became increasingly desirable, Colin spotted an opportunity to specialise in this area. This was not unnoticed and soon Llandaff Laminates became one of the first to import laminate products from Perstop Decorative Laminates directly from Sweden.
Continuing to carve out a niche in the world of sheet laminate, other laminate brands were added including Warerite, Formica and Polyrey.
The company portfolio of products continued to grow and with the introduction of post formed laminate worktops having a massive impact on the kitchen industry, Llandaff Laminates became the first distributor for Duropal worktops and is proud to be the UK’s longest serving distributor.
In 1990 Llandaff Laminates became a distributor for Hotpoint appliances. This was an almost natural progression as the company was delivering worktops into the kitchen market. To this day, we value a solid relationship with our suppliers, choosing and promoting products that we believe are best suited for our customers and pride ourselves with educating and supporting our customers to maximise our potential.
By the early 2000s Llandaff Laminates had outgrown the Llandaff area of Cardiff and the site was too small to cope with the volume of customers. This prompted the decision to seek out a new premises and a new development was chosen in the Rumney area of Cardiff.
The team worked tirelessly on the new design and specialist racking and forklift systems were planned in order to allow for significant stocks to be held. In 2004 the move was made and although no longer in the Llandaff vicinity, the company name remains the same in order to keep the reputation and history that goes with it.
